Two DAP MPs from Sabah will be tabling an emergency motion in parliament on the frequent power supply disruption in the state.
KUALA LUMPUR: An emergency motion on the frequent power supply disruption in Sabah will be tabled during the Parliament session soon.
Kota Kinabalu MP Jimmy Wong and Sandakan MP Stephen Wong said the three Independent Power Producers (IPP) in Teluk Selat, Rugading and ARL Power Malawa were undergoing repairs and this had caused a shortage of 200MW.
Wong said due to this, certain parts of Sabah were experiencing frequent power cut.
“Power has to redirected to these parts from other plants,” he said.
Both the DAP MPs believe that the effort taken by Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Maximus Ongkili is not enough to address the power supply disruption in a long term.
Among the points to be included in the emergency motion are:
The Task Force on Planning and Monitoring on Implementation of Sabah Electricity (PPPES) should include MPs from both sides of the political divide to share their views and ideas;
Request for more allocation to build extra power plants in Sabah in the upcoming Budget 2014; and
To bring back the LNG power plant planned in Pantai Timur, Sabah, and not the charcoal power plant which was opposed by the Sabahans in the area.
In addition, the DAP duo estimated that power supply required in Sabah reaching 2020 will be 1500MW and believe that 800MW more need to be increased as at present around 1,000MW is used in Sabah daily.
In addition, the DAP duo estimated that power consumption in Sabah would be 1,500MW by 2020 and 800MW more was needed from the present 1,000MW daily.
