Flasher causes stir at price hike flashmob
For about five minutes, a woman, believed to be suffering from mental illness, hogged the limelight near Dataran Merdeka where a group of protesters had gathered to denounce the hike in petrol and diesel prices.
The woman appeared at the scene around 5.50pm, stood in the middle of the street in the rain, and started to remove her clothes while shouting at passing motorists.
This prompted the shocked flashmob protesters to put aside their banners and placards in order not to antagonise the woman further.
After she left, the group from Geng Kotak, Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia (SAMM) and Life for Democracy - resumed with their protest, urging passing motorists to honk in support.
Their protest drew an overwhelming response from the motorists.
Speaking to reporters later, Geng Kotak spokesperson Omar Mohamad (left) said more protesters are expected to join the group by 9pm, after which, they would occupy Dataran Merdeka.
Condemning the price hikes, he said: "This is bound to create a domino effect, and the prices of goods and services will escalate as well."
Drawing an analogy with a pregnant woman, Omar also dismissed the government's pledge to curb the prices of other goods and services from rising.
"It is like impregnating a woman and then attempting to stop her abdomen from getting bigger," he said.
The price of RON95 and diesel went up 20 sen respectively effective midnight.
