ROS wants DAP to stop 'battle via media'

Rather than fight out its battle against the Registrar of Societies (ROS) in the media, the DAP should ‘comply with procedures’ in the re-election of its central executive committee (CEC) members.

ROS director-general Abdul Rahman Othman said this in noting that he had only found out via news reports that the party will hold fresh elections on Sept 29, using the old candidates’ list.

He said the party had made these decisions without submitting the relevant documents to his office.

"I didn't receive anything. They just tell the media what they are going to do," Abdul Rahman said today, urging the party to submit the documents.
He said that he did not wish to comment further until DAP had submitted relevant documents to inform ROS on the reelection date.

Asked if any letters had been issued by DAP, Abdul Rahman raised his voice while answering: “What letter? What list? You (reporters) tell them (DAP), they spoke about this (reelection date) on Aug 20, (it’s) now Sept 2 already, where are the documents?

“To date, I haven’t received anything. They (DAP) just tell the media whatever they want to do,” he lamented.

NONEAbdul Rahman (fourth from right in photo) said this during a press conference after handing over ROS certificates to 20 new political parties in Putrajaya today.

A total of 11 of the political parties are from Sabah, five from Sarawak and four from the peninsula.

Abdul Rahman said that some of the parties had submitted their applications since 2008, and the effective date for the 20 parties approved today is Aug 28 this year.

“From now on the parties’ committees can start their membership drives. And competition is the greatest in Sabah as there are so many new parties there,” he said.

Abdul Rahman reminded those who had interest to join the new political parties to ensure that they did not register their memberships under more than a party, as this was disallowed by the current law.
