An assistant minister in Sabah has received brickbats from Facebook users for saying that the fuel price increase was meant to help the poor.
Facebook user Mohd Hafis Mues said: If the minister’s salary and allowances are cut then only it is aiding the poor.
Another user Raphael Troy Draco also echoed Hafis’ sentiments saying, how can he be a minister when he is too ignorant in mathematics, what more to administer the nation.”
On Thursday, New Sabah Times reported Sairin as saying that the 20 sen increase for RON 95 and diesel were meant to help the poor.
Sairin said the hike was a good initiative by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak on aiding people from the lower strata of economy.
“The government still provides subsidies as much as 63 sen per litre for RON 95 and 80 sen for diesel per litre, so the 20 sen hike is not a major problem for consumers,” Sairin added.
Najib announced the fuel price increase last Monday in a move to reduce the nation’s fiscal deficit, resulting the prices to go up to RM2 and RM2.10 for diesel RON 95 respectively.
Since then, Real Estate and Housing Developers of Malaysia had said that they may have to increase house prices by 10% due to the fuel hike and the recent crackdown on illegal immigrants.
Another Facebook user Shin Chan questioned on why Sairin opted to display his stupidity through the media.
Rum Zie, meanwhile, described the entire report as “the most stupidest report he had ever read”.
