KUALA LUMPUR: An Irish folk band today launched a song dedicated to the "fashion and passion" of Berjaya Corporation Berhad founder Tan Sri Vincent Tan.
The "Vincent Tan What a Man" song was inspired by the Cardiff City majority stakeholder after the club's 3-2 win against Manchester City in the first home game of the new season.
The Corrigan Brothers said they were inspired by what they described as Tan's "flamboyant" celebrations and unique fashion sense during the Bluebirds' shock win.
The trio is made up of brothers Ger, Brian and Donnacha Corrigan from Castletroy in County Limerick.
Ger told Irish daily, The Echo: "We were watching the match together waiting to go on stage for a festival.
"When we saw Vincent Tan appear on the pitch, we thought: my God, this guy really has the spirit of the club – he's sincere and delighted with himself and the way he appeared with the shirt over his business suit.
"Vincent has the businessman style and sporting delight. He's the only one who does it that way."
It was then that the brothers, who were already writing material for an album, decided to pen a ditty about Tan.
Ger said the online reception to their song in Malaysia has taken the band by surprise and that they have been asked to appear on Malaysian TV..
The Corrigan Brothers have already performed in front of US President Barack Obama after singing their song There's No-one as Irish as Barack O'bama at his inauguration and during a visit to Ireland which celebrated the president's little-known Irish heritage. It went on to rack up 10 million views on YouTube.
Ger said they now also hope to give Tan a personal performance. "It's always very flattering no matter how wealthy you are to have a song written about you. I'm pretty sure our paths will cross."
