PETALING JAYA: Cheras Umno chief Syed Ali Alhabshee today accused PKR President Wan Azizah Ismail of insulting the intelligence of Permatang Pauh voters with her statement that her deputy, Azmin Ali, would take care of the constituency’s interests if she won the seat.
Syed Ali said the “childish” statement revealed her “shallowness”.
“An MP’s job is not a part-time job,” he said. “It requires someone willing to take responsibility for the trust that voters place on his or her shoulders.”
In making her statement, Wan Azizah was attempting to allay fears that she would be too busy to attend to the needs of Permatang Pauh constituents since she is already the Kajang representative in the Selangor State Assembly.
Syed Ali said the statement showed that she had no respect for voters in Permatang Pauh.
Describing her as “greedy” for position, he said she should have declined when her party nominated her as its candidate in the May 7 by-election.
He said PKR’s decision to nominate her proved that the party lacked capable leaders.
“Voters in Permatang Pauh must realise that PKR is an irresponsible party that fights for nothing other than to promote what is left of Anwar Ibrahim’s agenda,” he added.
