Arul Kandasamy has taken the entire country by storm.
In fact, never before has the country witnessed a person, operating at the higher end of the social circle, so willing to take so much risks and be “so in your face”.
No doubt Arul’s name is so widely spoken, that it would have been mentioned in the warungs at the Kedah-Thai border right up to the National Palace in the presence of the Rulers.
But perhaps that is exactly why nobody, operating at the higher end of the social circle, had been willing to take so much risks and be “so in your face.” Rarely does it pay to be so famous, when people rarely speak well of you.
Nonetheless, as a celebrity in his own right, Arul Kandasamy’s ascension has triggered both revolting disgust as well as deep admiration.
I will first talk about the deep admiration I have to Arul Kandasamy.
Let’s be frank – Arul Kandsamy is no Malay.
In fact he is a Sri Lankan Tamil by ethnicity, but let’s just say Indian, to make things easier.
As the case goes, most of the right wing Malay bloggers have deep jealously for successful Indians.
After all, they attacked Tony Fernandes relentlessly, calling him a “pariah” and heaped all sorts of racial insults, on account of his success with Air Asia.
Dr M, Zeti, Muhyiddin
Arul's got right wing bloggers eating out of his hand
But these same guys who were calling Tony Fernandes names are now eating out of Arul Kanda’s hand.
They have no compunction to attack Tun Dr Mahathir – the same Tun Dr Mahathir whose policies of race based meritocracy so many Malays advance to the top positions in the civil service at the expense of their Indian colleagues.
The same Tun Dr Mahathir who gave billions of contracts to the Malay contractors and stifled Indian businesses The same Tun Dr Mahathir who denied brilliant Indian children a right to tertiary education at local universities or access to Government scholarships.
So right now, these bloggers be it Rocky Bru, The Unspinners, Another Brick In the Wall and the Dog have seen the light. They attack Tun Dr Mahathir relentlessly.
They attack Governor of the Central Bank, Dr Zeti as well – one of the most celebrated Malay bankers in the world.
Not only that, some of the bloggers who used to foam at the mouth about race and royalty are now brave enough to claim that the Council of Rulers is “misplaced” and “misinformed.”
So I congratulate Arul Kandasamy for showing how shallow all these racists are. Today they say they fight for the Malays. Put RM 200 under their noses, and they will fight for the Indians.
Mohd Hassan's criticism over the sale of Edra Energy is treason to Najib
Okay, that is the portion which I think is worth admiring.
Now, the portion which is not so good is his chosen media strategy.
As much as Raja Petra Kamaruddin has advised him that this a war of who shouts loudest, I think RPK is off his rocker.
The reason is that RPK argues from the point of view of a Keadilaan operative, Arul Kanda must craft his media strategy from the point of view of a person representing the Government.
In this regard, it was really very stupid to pick a fight with a) Tun Dr Mahathir, b) Tan Sri Muhiyiddin and c) Governor Zeti. All three of them have their own influence.
Some very, very powerful people may hate Tun Dr Mahathir but really admire Governor Zeti. So when you pick a fight with all these powerful people, you unite all their supporters and make them your enemy.
That sir is not intelligent, neither is it smart.
Negri Sembilan MB in focus
What Arul should do is to close the sale of the Edra for RM 20 billion to the Arabs.
In order to close that, he needs to get Najib to either make the Mohd Hassan publicly recant his opposition to the deal or to eliminate him from the post of Negeri Menteri Besar.
This is because if there is really somebody “smart” enough to pay RM 20 billion for Edra in cold hard cash, this solves so many of Najib’s problems at one go. 1MDB will literally be “home and free” – I do not see any further issue to its sustainability or debt serviceability. This also strengthens the currency and restores investor sentiment.
In fact, even though my application to be a “pro Najib” blogger has been turned down, I was the only one who had strongly supported this deal and criticised Mohd Hassan’s opposition in this article entitled "Hassan Derhaka".
Najib is making the racists in UMNO look so stupid that you end up saying. "aiyah RM 42 billion sajalah"
None of the other bloggers on the payroll of 1MDB has bothered to make the case.
They are only interested in attacking Tun Dr Mahathir, Tan Sri Zeti and other leading Malays.
Once again, it is my sincere hope that the great Habibur Rahman or Akademi Farid Ridzuan will see the benefit in engaging real “Spin Kings” to craft media strategy and not rely on a those who will sell out their ideals for a couple of bones. - http://spin-kings.blogspot.my/
