One of the two Orang Asli pupils who were found alive after fleeing their school to hide in the jungle has been discovered to have a heart condition, The Star reported today.
The English-language daily said 11-year-old Miksudiar Aluj would remain in hospital for further treatment for a hole in her heart but 10-year-old Norieen Yaakob was discharged yesterday from the Raja Perempuan Zainab 11 Hospital.
However, Norieen’s uncle Henry Boy Angah said she would not return to school until she fully recovered.
He added that Miksudiar was expected to remain in hospital for a longer period for further checks and treatment.
Seven Orang Asli children went missing on August 23, reportedly because they feared punishment by their teachers.
Four are dead while two, Miksudiar and Norieen, were found safe after weeks in the jungle.
The dead children – Ika Ayel, 9; Haikal Yaacob, 8; Linda Rosli, 8 and Juvina David, 7 – were buried last Sunday.
Traumatised parents from Orang Asli villages in the area say they will remove their children from the boarding school, situated some two hours away from their homes.
