PANDIKAR EXPOSED IN PARLIAMENT: YOU DELIBERATELY SABOTAGED 1MDB PROBE - KIT SIANG CENSURES SPEAKER
KUALA LUMPUR - Gelang Patah parliamentarian Lim Kit Siang has accused Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia of sabotaging investigations into strategic investment company 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
Kit Siang said Pandikar had deliberately stopped meetings of the Public Accounts Committee, which was probing the company belonging to the Finance Ministry.
“There is no provision for the Speaker to stop the meetings. This is abuse of power by the Yang-Dipertua and a sabotage of the 1MDB probe,
“The Yang Dipertua has become a dictator, which should not be (the case).
“Is he afraid that 1MDB is being probed?” he interjected when debating the appointment of the new PAC chairman in Dewan Rakyat, today.
Pandikar responded by saying that Kit Siang could easily pass remarks despite not being part of the decision-making process.
Pandikar explained that under Standing Order 77 (3), the task force needed to select a representative when a chairman or vice-chairman was absent.
“This is a task force selected by Parliament. I am the chairman that named the members of all of them. But in the case of PAC, I cannot name who is the replacement as it must be done during Dewan Rakyat sittings.
“Under normal circumstances, during meetings, when former (PAC chairman Datuk) Nur Jazlan (Mohamed) is not present, due to ill health (for example), (vice-chairman) DAP-Kepong MP Tan Seng Giaw can sit in as chairman.
“The Standing Order refers to this situation, not one where the PAC chairman is not occupying the post any more.
“That is my interpretation, which was supported by the Attorney-General’s Chambers,” he said.
The PAC chairman post became vacant after Nur Jazlan was appointed Deputy Home Minister during the last Cabinet reshuffle.
Nur Jazlan was replaced by Rompin Member of Parliament Datuk Hasan Arifin today. - Therakyatpost
