Demonstrations were held at toll plazas around the Klang Valley this evening ahead of the toll hike that will take effect at midnight.
People gathered by a toll booth in Puchong along the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) holding posters decrying the hike from RM1.60 to RM2.10.
Protestors also called on passing motorists to honk in support.
DAP's Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo was seen among the protestors, who also called on passing motorists to honk in support.
News portal Malaysiakini also reported that demonstrations were also held at other highways, such as the Guthrie Expressway, the Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (Duke), the Kemuning Shah Alam-Highway (LKSA) and the Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (Silk).
On Monday, 12 major highway concessionaires in the Klang Valley announced an increase in toll rates, ranging from between 10 sen and RM6. Toll rates in Penang will also increase.
