Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin today appealed to his party members to rise against what he described as the robbery of the country's assets.
"Do not allow the fighting spirit that flows in the blood of every Umno fighter to be easily bought at a cheap price.
"It is the responsibility of every Umno fighter to rise against misappropriation and robbery of the country's assets by certain quarters.
"Only then will Umno be admired and respected by the rakyat and its struggle would be blessed by Allah," Muhyiddin said in a statement today.
He also made reference to 1MDB critics Khairuddin Abu Hassan and Matthias Chang, who have been charged under Section 124L of the Penal Code for attempted sabotage of the country's banking system.
Khairuddin and Chang were charged after lodging police reports in several countries relating to bank accounts linked to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and 1MDB.
"A sensible person would surely ask who the actual saboteurs of the country's banking and financial services are.
"Are they those who make reports to the authorities so that allegations of wrongdoings by 1MDB are investigated or those who have caused billions of ringgit in taxpayers' money in 1MDB to disappear?
"Should Umno leaders remain silent on this matter and conspire with the masterminders?" Muhyiddin asked in a statement today.
The duo's police report came amid the discovery of RM2.6 billion in Najib's personal bank accounts.
Najib has denied taking public funds for personal gain while his supporters claimed the money was a "political donation".
Muhyiddin, who was removed from the government for being critical of Najib's handling of 1MDB, has also confronted Najib about the money deposited into his personal bank accounts. -Mkini
