'I'll be Chinese till the day I die, and my embrace of Islam would be meaningless if I were anti-Chinese.'
PETALING JAYA: Sinar Harian columnist Ridhuan Tee today lashed out at MCA official Ti Lian Ker for saying he lacked knowledge about politics and about Chinese culture.
In his latest article, the Muslim preacher told MCA leaders to read his academic work on “Chinese Perceptions of Umno” before judging him.
Responding to Ti’s call on him to join MCA, he indicated he was already a member of the party. “Please check MCA’s register of members,” he said without elaborating.
Tee declared that he had never denied his Chinese background and had never been anti-Chinese. He said, “I’ll be Chinese till the day I die. That is God’s will. And my embrace of Islam would be meaningless if I were anti-Chinese.”
He said he had been forced to speak harshly against non-Muslims – “at the risk of being called racist or anti-Chinese” – because they had persisted in their anti-Islam rhetoric to the point of “narrowing the space for Islam to breathe.”
“You can play your politics,” he said, “but don’t interfere in Islamic affairs because we have never interfered in the affairs of other religions.”
Scoffing at Ti’s offer to instruct him on Malaysian Chinese politics, he pointed to MCA’s failure to retain Chinese support, reminding the party that its few electoral victories were all in Malay-majority constituencies. “So whom should MCA thank?” he asked.
Tee also questioned MCA’s support of Chinese educationists in their insistence on maintaining the current curriculum in Chinese vernacular schools, particularly in their opposition to government efforts to increase the students’ exposure to Bahasa Malaysia.
Reacting to claims the Federal Constitution protects the existence of vernacular schools, he quoted the following extract from an article written by constitutional law expert Shad Saleem Faruqi: “The Chinese and Tamil schools are actually not protected under the Constitution. The Constitution only permits the right to learn the languages, but doesn’t give you the right to learn in the language.”
Mr Ti is right. Rid One Tee is no longer a Chinese. He forget every things about Chinese culture and betray his own race, religion and country. Rakyat remembered, how he used the term "Selangor Darul Babi"??
ReplyDeleteBetter give him white colour "ang pau" instead of give him MCA membership. He even disgrace his own parents, which is the first pillar of Confucius teaching.
He thought,he is the only one who know BM. The other non-bumis are illiterate in BM and not patriotic at all. But when even a small kid asked him for debate or required answer from him in BM, he will hiding himself just like a little mice. His idea is only fit for kindergarten.
Dong Zong is right. BM teachers must have credit in Mandarin in order to get quality students. Ask Ridhuan Tee, why account clerk etc.. vacancies in government services require credit in BM? Why distinction in mathematics is not enough?
See how dangerous his idea? What else could rakyat expect anything from this fella?
MCA should get rid of him. Otherwise, not only BN will lost in the coming general election but MCA will also suffer become dinosaur and extinct forever. MCA is right. Get more chinese in govermens services. That is the main point to get chinese support. Undi post dari tentera dan polis sure BN, MCA win. Please do something before it is too late.
