Tengku Adnan said PKR was welcome to take in the former higher education minister as there must be "some problem" with him.
"Saifuddin has been with us and used to be an MP for Temerloh. We put him in the last round and he lost. There must be some problem with him," the federal minister said in Putrajaya.
"Even the rakyat of Temerloh don't want him, so you (PKR) can take him. We don't want him. We don't want all this rubbish in Umno."
"Umno has no affect by him (Saifuddin) leaving. God bless him and God bless PKR" Tengku Adnan added sarcastically.
Saifuddin today announced that he was leaving Umno for opposition party PKR, citing Putrajaya's way of handling the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal and the RM2.6 billion deposited into the prime minister's personal accounts as reasons for his decision.
Saifuddin also attributed his departure from the Malay ruling party to the lack of will to embark on political change and institutional reform – two causes that he said were close to his heart.
Despite other parties with multiracial platforms, Saifuddin said today that he was attracted to PKR.
In addition, he said the opposition pact shared the same objectives and ideals to champion and fight for a better Malaysia.
With this latest move, the former Temerloh MP will quit his CEO post in the Global Movement of Moderates (GMM).
