An English language boo-boo at a dinner for Parliament staff has sparked an internet meme as social media users including leading politicians post scissors-shaped salad.
The meme was inspired by a dinner for Parliament staff yesterday where its menu listed "Caesar Salad" as "Scissors Salad".
Even popular franchise Pizza Hut, which has Caesar's Salad on its menu, jumped onto the bandwagon.
"We don't have 'scissors salad' but we do have Caesar's Salad. #OhMyEnglish #CaesarSalad," it said in a Twitter posting.
The blunder also caught the attention of Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin who posted a picture of a bowl of lettuce shaped like scissors on Twitter.
"Couldn't resist. Long live scissors salad!" he said in a twitter posting.
Meanwhile, Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming jokingly suggested that the dish may be a genuine Malaysian invention.
"I don't get the hate, isn't it possible that we came up with our own sharp flavoured Malaysian salad?" he said on Twitter.
Kelana Jaya MP Wong Chen said the incident highlighted the state of English language in the country.
"More evidence of the 'powderful' (powerful) English in Malaysia.
"Check out the Parliament menu for 'scissors' salad.
"Is someone trying to murder the speaker Pandikar Amin by putting sharp objects into his salad?" he said in a Facebook post.
He also highlighted other mistakes in the menu, including a misspelling of "creme brulee".
