One brother seeks truth, the other wants to bury it

YOURSAY | ‘The Charles and Richard dispute reminds me of the story of Solomon.’
Kim Quek: What a family of contrast - the Morais siblings!
One, who left home as a kid to blaze his way in a foreign land to become a tycoon hotelier (though not without his ups and downs), another who died a martyr in courageous discharge of his duty to the nation in defiance of the mightiest of the land, and yet another, who wastes his life as a scavenger.
For those who are uncertain of the truthfulness of Charles Morais’ revelation that elder brother Kevin was murdered because he had incurred the wrath of the powerful in the course of duty, just ask these questions:
1. Why did the hierarchy of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) enact such unusually solemn commemoration for the late deputy public prosecutor Kevin, where high praises were heaped and spontaneous sorrows expressed?
Didn’t such gestures reflect their inner feelings that they and Kevin were in fact in the same boat, facing the same hazards of risking the same fate that had befallen Kevin?
2. Why did the Sultan of Perak bestow posthumously such honour to Kevin so soon after his death, if the latter had not performed an unusually courageous and admirable service to the nation?
Aries46: We have wayward sibling Richard Morais who seem averse to getting at the truth to the extent of cremating the remains (evidence) amidst Charles’ application for a second post-mortem and exhorting the authorities to track down and incarcerate his elder brother.
Wills are written based on needs and fair play and to infer anything more is self-deception. As siblings, what does Richard stand to lose by giving Charles the benefit of doubt to allay his suspicion, which after all is based on concerns expressed by Kevin himself?
Why is he so furious to the extent of slamming his own blood for nothing more than seeking the truth?
Shanul: The Charles and Richard dispute reminds me of the story of Solomon in the Bible.
Two women claimed to be the real mother of a baby. So Solomon gave the order to cut the baby in two so that each woman could have one half of the baby.
The imposter gladly accepted Solomon's verdict for if she couldn't have the baby neither should the other woman. But the real mother was willing to let the imposter have the baby so that her son would live.
So in Morais' case, Charles is willing to risk imprisonment or death and tread the political minefield of Malaysia to unearth the truth behind Kevin's murder so that the real perpetrator(s) can be brought to justice, despite his seemingly wealthy and comfortable life in the United States.
Richard, on the other hand, wants to bury the truth in a hurry. He even threatened to ask PM Najib Razak to arrest Charles under Sosma (Security Offences [Special Measures] Act). Now you be the judge.
We don't need Kevin's will to infer who is closer Kevin, or who has Kevin's interests at heart. Imposters are rarely able to fake their actions. As they say, actions speak louder than words.
Simple Malaysian: Richard, you have just let the cat out of the bag and now I am even more convinced of your elder brother's story.
Being a datuk, openly declaring one's connections only proves what all are saying - there is a conspiracy to the highest level to keep things under wraps; that is how things work in Malaysia.
We are not interested who were or are the benefactors of late Kevin's will. After all, it was his final wish and only Kevin knows why he willed it that way. Let’s keep that out of the picture and not cloud it.
Anonymous 29051438068738: Whether Kevin worked on the RM2.6 billion ‘donation’ (or the transfer of RM42 million of SRC money in Najib’s bank account) may be easily confirmed by staff in the Attorney-General’s Chambers at the material time (that excludes the fellow or fellows planted there by the principal suspect).
Among those who may step forward to swear one way or other are former legal officer Jessica Gurmit Kaur Sidhu, former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, AG’s Chambers’ Appellate and Trial Division head Manoj Kurup, et al. There are also several others in MACC who may vouch for what he did in its investigations.
The simple fact that there continues to be silence from the relevant staffers in both the AG’s Chambers and MACC, i.e. those who clearly know the truth or extent of his role if ever there was one, points to one and only one conclusion - Kevin was in the thick of things, played a key role and had every reason to be concerned.
Charles is therefore credible and given the fact his SD (statutory declaration) was signed in the presence of senior lawyer Americk Sidhu, well-known for his meticulousness and personal integrity, it is more than likely that there is more than meets the eye in Kevin’s killing.
CQ Muar: Originally I had wanted to stay away from such family squabble, as this involved two brothers, Charles and Richard, over their deceased brother, Kevin.
I wonder how the late Kevin would feel, and how their parents feel about these two siblings at loggerheads with one another.
Without taking sides, and not knowing the facts, I abstain from making comments. However, I reckon Richard had carried things too far the way he belittled Charles to such extent.
For that, he had unconsciously revealed what a vile person he really is against his own flesh and blood.
May God forgive them and help them reform to better persons for whatever reasons and animosity they had against each other. Perhaps this will bring peace to Kevin's untimely end. -Mkini
