'Nonsense'.
This is what Charles Suresh Morais, brother of deceased deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais, said about the allegations of bankruptcy and business failures being made against him.
"All this nonsense about me and crimes committed in the US. (There is a) difference between business bankruptcy and personal bankruptcy," Charles said in an exclusive e-mail to Malaysiakini today.
"I stayed for two months at the Hilton (Hotel) in Kuala Lumpur on my dime, waiting for the autopsy results," he added.
He was commenting on the several news reports from 2007 till 2011 by various news organisations on Charles' business troubles and cases related to it.
Charles did not deny that he had filed for bankruptcy, though he stressed that he filed it on behalf of his business and that it was 'not a crime' to do so.
"So did the car companies, banks and financial institutions all commit a crime when they filed in 2008, the same time the company I helped run did?" he questioned.
A source close to Charles had previously told Malaysiakini that these financial troubles and legal wrangles were matters of the past.
"The bankruptcy was in 2008 after the crash (sub-prime mortgage crisis) like every other businessperson. But he bounced back. He is in business again and doing very well.
"He is negotiating the purchase of six hotels here in Malaysia at the moment," the source had said.
A check with the US Public Access to Court Electronic Records (Pacer) found that the cases mentioned in the previous reports on Charles are no longer active.
Kevin’s remains were found in a cemented drum at Persiaran Subang Mewah, Subang Jaya, near Kuala Lumpur on Sept 16.
He was reported missing on Sept 4 and was last seen leaving his apartment at Menara Duta in Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya.
On Sept 28, six men were charged with Kevin's murder while two others including the army pathologist were charged with abetment.
