Opposition MP says leaving questions on the RM2.6 billion till the last day of Parliament is a ploy to avoid answering it altogether.
KUALA LUMPUR: An Opposition MP lashed out at Azalina Othman Said today after the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department informed the House that the government would only answer questions regarding the RM2.6 billion donation on December 3, the last day of Parliament.
Anthony Loke (DAP-Seremban) however said that by doing so, the government was clearly showing that it did not want to entertain any questions about the scandal.
“They don’t want to pressure the Prime Minister (Najib Razak) so that’s why they want to keep it until the end of Parliament.
“December 3 is no longer Budget debate day which means they can’t take any supplementary questions,” Loke told reporters at Parliament lobby here today.
According to a report by MalaysiaKini, Azalina had said today that Najib or a minister he nominated would explain on December 3 the controversial RM2.6 billion donation that went into his personal bank accounts in 2013.
She said the answer to that question would be given during a question-and-answer session.
“Why don’t they answer it early? Why December 3? This is clearly a ploy by the government to avoid answering the RM2.6 billion issue,” Loke added.
In July, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) published an expose that RM2.6 billion had been channeled into Najib’s personal bank accounts.
Najib later revealed that the money was a “donation” from the Middle East to help him win the 13th General Election.
