The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has issued a veiled warning to SRC International that any quarter which tries to obstruct its investigation can face action.
MACC said this after SRC International insinuated that the leaking or possible sale of classified information belonging to state-owned companies may be linked to the graft buster.
"SRC International's statement on this matter, if true, appears as if the related quarters do not want MACC to investigate SRC International.
"Any quarter that obstructs MACC's investigation can face action under the MACC Act 2009," said the commission's investigations director Azam Baki in a statement this evening.
In its statement earlier today, SRC International said it held the MACC in high regard but went on to express concern about the 'recent wave of leakages or possible sale of classified information to members of the media and irresponsible, self-interested politicians'.
"We recognise that, as in any organisation, people are likely to have strong personal views or political inclinations.
"However, these must not be allowed to affect their impartiality in performing official duties," said SRC International.
It added that upon the completion of investigation by the attorney-general on leakages, they will fully cooperate with MACC or any other lawful authority with respect to any enquiries.
MACC probe in accordance with law
MACC's Azam said its investigation of SRC International is in accordance with the law.
He added that recent media reports about information leaked purportedly concerning the MACC are unrelated to the SRC International case.
As such, Azam said, MACC will continue its investigation against SRC International.
"MACC's investigation cannot be obstructed or postponed on grounds of waiting for investigations into reported information leak to first be completed.
"It is up to SRC International if it wants to lodge a police report about the leaks it is referring to," he said. -Mkini
