PETALING JAYA: PKR has pledged to free the people from the current leadership crisis in the country by offering former Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim as the alternative to Prime Minister Najib Razak, the party’s secretary-general said today.
Announcing the theme of the party’s annual national congress ‘Bebas Rakyat, Bebas Anwar’ (Free the People, Free Anwar), Rafizi Ramli explained, “Dato Seri Najib Razak’s failure and his loss of credibility with the rakyat has plunged the country into a leadership crisis.
“The rakyat is paying for it now with all sorts of programmes and policies, which aren’t only unpopular, but burdensome.”
A strong and alternative leadership was needed to bring the country out the crisis, he said, adding that PKR strongly believed that Anwar was the one leader who could do that.
Rafizi also explained that freedom of Anwar was inexplicably linked to the freedom of the people as the imprisoned leader would not have made the multiple damaging decisions that Najib did.
1530 delegates from 218 branches across the nation are expected to partake in the congress from November 28-29 at Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) Shah Alam, Selangor with about 500 observers from various groups also expected to attend.
The National Youth Congress and National Women’s Congress meanwhile will be held at the Civics Center in Petaling Jaya a day earlier.
“The debates throughout the National congress will revolve around the failed leadership of Najib Razak. I suggest that he leaves the country for the weekend as it is not going to be nice,” Rafizi quipped.
