Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today said Indians in the country are not 'pendatang' and therefore MIC should not practise caste politics, which is widespread in India.
"Indians in Malaysia are not 'pendatang'. Therefore MIC cannot practise caste politics.
"MIC must have politics and include all sections of the Indian community in Malaysia. We realise that the Indian community in Malaysia is important to the country.
"I have a dream for Malaysia to be at its peak and I want the Indians to be part of this development. We can make a big change as we have the strength," Najib said when officiating the 67th MIC General Assembly in Kuala Lumpur today.
Najib said this while urging MIC to close ranks after the party concluded its central committee elections.
"MIC must show that it is a party that is good and just.
"Meaning (MIC) must be magnanimous... we don't want MIC to be narrow. There should be wide participation (in the party)," he said
Najib urged the party not to sideline those who were defeated in the party elections.
"Do not reject those who are not in our camp or 'caste'.
"I say this so that we can accept (facts) and move forward," the prime minister said. -Mkini
