Putrajaya has confirmed today that there are activities aimed at toppling the current Barisan Nasional (BN) federal government.
He said the government was aware that such illegal efforts would affect the nation's economy.
"However, evidence of the existence of such activities cannot be revealed due to security reasons and the police is still accumulating detailed information related to this," he told Nasrudin Hassan (PAS-Temerloh) in a parliamentary written reply.
Nasrudin had asked for proof of alleged plots to topple the government.
Previously, Zahid said an Umno leader was behind a plot to topple the government with the support of opposition lawmakers.
He had said he had learned that they were preparing statutory declarations (SD) to remove the government.
However, he did not reveal the identity of the Umno leader, saying it would be "exposed on its own".
Following that reveal, a list of 20 BN lawmakers, which made its rounds on social media, included former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, and Semporna MP Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
Many of those named had denied involvement in such a plot, while several lodged police reports against the blog, Suara Hati, which carried the allegations.
However, Zahid had denied the 20 were part of a plot to bring down the government and that they were innocent.
