The planned expulsion or suspension of Muhyiddin Yassin is for the sole purpose to prevent him from playing the role of deputy president at the Umno General Assembly on December 8 to 12, but this may be too difficult to pull off.
Based on the 'odour that is becoming more and more pungent', Najib really does not want to give Muhyiddin any more space or platform to continue to criticize him and his government, particularly in relation to the 1MDB debacle and donation which have been denting his credibility and image in the eyes of the public.
Advancing the supreme council meeting and holding it in Parliament for the sake of its iron-clad security, the bigger goal is actually to minimize or limit the show of protest by Muhyiddin's supporters in the event that action is taken against him.
Moreover, it is not only Muhyiddin, who is among the so-called Group of Seven that faces the same action but also Tun Mahathir Mohamad and Shafie Apdal.
Based on information received last night, former Perak State Executive Councillor Hamidah Osman will also be charged for criticising and attacking Najib's leadership.
Vanity Najib's downfall
In the short term, no action will be taken against Muhyiddin except to prevent him from opening the General Assembly of the Women, Youth and Puteri wings, as well as winding up the assembly on the last day.
Same goes for Shafie, whom Najib also does not want to speak at the assembly for fear Shafie may criticize him.
With Muhyiddin and Shafie sidelined during the General Assembly, Najib thinks he is safe from any criticism and attacks that can cause him embarrassment.
In fact, it is likely the assembly has already been orchestrated with all sorts of speeches of praise and flattery to give Najib an aura of strength so that the mainstream media can report that Najib enjoys the continued support of Umno to lead this country.
At first glance, it does appear Najib is better off with Muhyiddin and Shafie sidelined. This is because Najib is not a leader who dares to face or engage in debate with his enemies.
He is an elitist aristocrat who just loves to be praised, adored and have his hand kissed. Even his speech is one-way. Lately, Najib has shunned press conferences where he can be asked questioned on any and whatever issue.
Look at how he ran away from the recent Nothing2Hide forum simply because he was afraid to deal with Tun Mahathir, who was present to question to him.
Due to Tun Mahathir no longer being in the hierarchy of leadership, he can probably escape action, as the main enemy for Najib now is his own number two (in Umno).
'Emperor with no clothes' exposed
Najib probably does not worry about contesting against Muhyiddin in the party election in the future, rather his fear is to face the truth. Therefore, getting rid of Muhyiddin is to prevent former the deputy prime minister from making a speech where questions are asked and the truth demanded.
But if Najib thinks he himself lucky to be able to gag Muhyiddin, he should think twice.
For Najib, he thinks he gains if Muhyiddin is eliminated simply because that would pre-empt any criticism and attacks during the General Assembly, leaving him free to reap praise and worship instead.
However, the after-effects would be much greater. If he is fired or suspended, Muhyiddin certainly would not sit still moaning about his bad luck or spend more time on his prayer mat. Muhyiddin would definitely go to all corners of the country to meet the grassroots to tell them about the nature of his dismissal.
The roadshows across the country will be more heated if Tun Mahathir and Shafie are also expelled or suspended, and decide to tag along.
Based on a number of developments in the past few days where an increasing number of UMNO branch leaders demanded Najib's resignation, it is likely that Najib and Umno will face more virulent infightingt if Muhyiddin is dismissed as gthe partys deputy president.
In fact, Najib's gain may be short-lived and exceeded by losses to come.
If Muhyiddin is dismissed, who is the biggest winner?
Way clear for Zahid to move at his own 'opportune' time
Of course, it is Zahid Hamidi. He will not only be given the opportunity of opening of the General Assembly of Women, Youth and Puteri wings on Dec 8, but he will get a automatic leg-up in the party's hierarchy as he will be carrying out the duties of deputy president (when he is currently only one of 3 vice-presidents).
Faced with all the pressure, through the motions of Tun Mahathir, Muhyiddin, Shafie and those who are sacked in tandem with a growing number of UMNO branch leaders for daring to demand Najib's resignation, the inevitable consequence is a weakened UMNO with no hope to win the general elections.
In such circumstances, would Zahid continue to defend Najib? Even if he wanted to defend Najib, could Zahid do it?
Is it not possible that Zahid will later on, through internal manipulations, be equally demanding in pushing Najib to resign on the grounds that it is necessary to save UMNO during the general elections.
If you look closely, the two leaders who have influence within UMNO, namely Hishammuddin Hussein and Khairy Jamaluddin have been more quiet in their defence of Najib. When they spoke up, their tones were visibly more in defence of Umno rather than its leader.
It is not impossible that with Muhyiddin eliminated, Zahid will be the 'catch of the evening' with Hishammuddin, Khairy Jamaluddin flocking with other division leaders to support him. - http://shahbudindotcom.blogspot.my/
