"There were also drivers of heavy vehicles who did not have a valid driving licence," he told a media conference at JPJ headquarters in Putrajaya today.
He said the operation was conducted with the cooperation of the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), the police and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Valluvan said overloaded lorries, mostly with sand, concrete and timber, damaged the roads.
"Our roads were built to a certain specification and the lorries are to abide by a certain load limit," he added.
He said the government had spent more than RM1 billion on road repairs in 10 years, and 25% of the 7,000 road accidents occuring in the country every year were caused by overloaded lorries. – Bernama,
