In his officiating speech at the Maulidur Rasul event in Serdang, the Agong said that allegations against the agencies were irresponsible and overly excessive.
“It has to be understood that the existence of these agencies, be it at the federal or state level, is to execute the function of the management and the development of Islamic affairs.
“Hence, the allegations made against the agencies are irresponsible and overly excessive," the Agong said.
The Agong did not elaborate on these allegations, but in recent weeks several groups have questioned the role and purpose of some Islamic agencies.
Earlier, Tuanku Abdul Halim said the unity between all races in Malaysia which has existed since Independence, must to be maintained.
This would be achieved if everyone carried out their role and responsibility as best as they could, the king said.
“For this, I appreciate the role taken by the Islamic agencies that carry out various educational programmes on Islam.
“These have a major impact in building a united and harmonious community,” Tuanku Abdul Halim said.
The Agong urged Muslims to stay away from any form of ideology or teaching that deviates from Islam.
"Islam encompasses every aspect of life. The mindset of those who think that Islam is only restricted to ritual activities and personal agenda is a deviation from teachings of the Prophet. I hope Muslims will stay away from any ideas and teachings that deviate from Islam," the Agong said.
He also hoped that all Islamic institutions keep to the right path and remain effective in carrying out their duties.
The Agong also urged the people to appreciate the theme of this year's Maulidur Rasul celebration, saying that the root of national harmony is the understanding and unity among the races and religions in Malaysia.
The Maulidur Rasul theme this year is "Perpaduan Nadi Transformasi Negara" (unity is the key to national transformation).
The Agong said the Prophet Muhammad's success in uniting Muslims to live in peace and harmony with non-Muslims should serve as an example to all.
