Australian actress in alleged abduction a no-show

Eliza Szonert was scheduled to give her statement to police yesterday.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are looking for an Australian actress, Eliza Szonert, who allegedly abducted her son from her former husband, Ashley Crick, at a restaurant here last Thursday.

Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief, Law Hong Soon, said the woman had promised to be present at the police station yesterday to give her statement, but until today, there was no sign of her.

“We will track her down soon to help in investigations. Do not run or hide,” he told reporters after a crime prevention and blood donation campaign today.

Law was also confident that the woman was still in the country but had contacted the Australian High Commission here to seek their help in the case.

On Wednesday, news portal The Malaysian Insider quoted a report from The Sydney Morning Herald which said Szonert was accompanied by two men to a restaurant in a shopping complex here to meet Crick before she fled with their son.

The report said Szonert came to Malaysia with her son to live with Crick, who stayed and worked here, before a row erupted between them.

However, the report said Szonert had failed to return to Australia with the couple’s son as Crick was believed to be keeping her passport.

Subsequently, Crick lodged a police report at the Brickfields police station on the night of the incident.
