KULAI - In what is suspected to be an attempted gangland execution, two gunmen rode on a motorbike to a prominent Datuk's house on Wednesday night and waited for their target to come within range before firing a few shots targetted at his head.
The 39-year old Datuk, a businessman, was with his employee, a 23-year-old lorry driver, in front of his house about 11pm in Taman Gaya 2, Saleng when the gunmen fired the shots.
Both the victims who were hit by the bullets are admitted in hospital, one in stable condition while another reported to be in serious condition.
Johor CID chief Senior Assistant Commisioner Kamarul Zaman Mamat who did not want to disclose details as to who is in serious condition said the suspects escaped after firing the shots.
"We suspect the gunmen fled from the scene believing that their mission has been accomplished," he said, adding that it is yet to be ascertained if the gunmen were hired killers.
Kamarul said they believe that the shooting could be due to business rivalry.
"However, we have yet to establish the actual motive of the shooting. A special task force has been set up to investigate the case," he told reporters at the state police headquarters here today.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 for attempted murder. - Sundaily
