Group calls for halt in action against dissenting voices as it is “killing democracy within the party”.

ULU KLANG: Five more Umno branches in the Ulu Klang constituency have joined calls for the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Razak as prime minister as well as Umno party president.
The five branches, present at a press conference at Taman Melawati, were Delima Lembah Keramat, Taman Melawati, Kampung Kemensah Hilir, Jelatek Permai and Lake Yew Batu Caves.
The coalition’s spokesperson, Hamdan Abdul Raman, elaborating on the decision said: “We are not causing trouble as we are sacrificing for Umno. We have decided that Najib Razak must step down as the President of Umno.”
He further said, “The party election, scheduled for next year, must be held earlier. Action taken against dissident members of Umno must be stopped as this is killing democracy within the party.”
“We are not fighting the party and the government. We only demand for the leader to step down. It is time for Umno to be led by a brave leader with integrity,” he said and quoting former premier Mahathir Mohammed and former Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin as examples.
Hamdan, the Delima Lembah Keramat branch leader, stressed that branches shouldn’t put too much hope on division leaders, as they and members of the supreme council were too afraid to speak out.
“It is unfortunate that when Umno hoped for truth, those who were entrusted with the responsibility failed to carry out their task with integrity” he said.
