While Prime Minister and Umno president Najib Abdul Razak came out in full control of the party at its general assembly last week, his nemesis Dr Mahathir Mohamed kept mum on commenting the outcome of the meeting.
"I'm smiling," said Mahathir when asked to comment whether he is happy with the conduct and outcome of the AGM.
He said he will comment on his blog soon.
"I will write something about it but later,” he told a press conference in Putrajaya after he was pressed a few times for his comment.
Mahathir has been launching a broadside against Najib since April, focusing on 1MDB and RM2.6 billion "donation" scandals and calling on Najib to resign.
The former prime minister warned that should Najib remain in power, Umno may lose in the next general election.
However, defiant Najib did not bow to pressure and went ahead sacking his deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and vice-president Shafie Apdal from the cabinet in July.
Najib also tightened his grip on Umno at the general assembly last week, which saw no delegates publicly questioning the scandals and all expressing full support for Najib during the debate.
