Kota Raya complex scuffle suspect picked up

A 38-year-old man was arrested at the Kota Raya Shopping Complex yesterday in connection with an altercation that broke out yesterday afternoon.
"He works as a parking attendant in a shopping complex," Dang Wangi district deputy police chief Supt Habibi Majinji is quoted as saying by The Star Online today.
Habibi said the suspect was part of the group said to be involved in the attack on a group of mobile phone shop workers and that he would be remanded today.
He said the police are still investigating whether the suspect is the one allegedly cheated by a trader at the complex.
Police will be releasing photographs of the suspect soon and are looking into the matter under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons and Section 394 for voluntarily causing injury while committing robbery.
The altercation took place at the mall about 5pm yesterday when some 20 persons reportedly confronted workers at a mobile phone store over allegations of being cheated.
The scuffle was eventually brought under control, though not before two shop workers suffered minor injuries.
A police report has been lodged by the mobile phone workers injured in the incident.
The brawl comes two days after an earlier protest, led by Malay Army Veterans Association member Mohd Ali Baharom, who is better known as Ali Tinju, at the same shopping complex, held with the allegation that customers were being cheated.
The Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM) also held a press conference at which it made claims of similar cases of cheating prior to the incident.
This is the second high-profile incident involving altercations at a mobile phone sales premises, the previous one being the fracas at the Low Yat Plaza in Bukit Bintang in July. -Mkini
