More money for Chinese schools if you vote for us, MCA tells Chinese

The Chinese must elect MCA representatives if they are to get more financial allocation from the government, the party's Wanita chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie said, as reported by The Star.

Heng, a former deputy minister, said in politics, the numbers counted and the Chinese community must be realistic.

For example, she revealed that the government annually allocated RM100 million for Chinese primary schools before the 2013 general election, but the amount was slashed by half after the Chinese gave their votes to the opposition.

“At RM50 million, the annual allocation for the 1,692 Chinese primary schools is the same as the amount for 162 Tamil primary schools.

“Perhaps some say this is unfair but politics is realistic,” she was reported to have said at the Ipoh Chinese Chin Woo Athletic Association 91st anniversary celebration over the weekend.

She said the community lost out a lot as they were misled by the Chinese dominant DAP's Ubah campaign in the last election, and one of the consequences was a reduction in government allocation for Chinese primary schools.

“Over 85% of the Chinese voted for the opposition in the last elections, thinking that it was capable of providing them with a better future.

MCA's representation in the Dewan Rakyat dwindled drastically since 2004 general election when the party had 31 MPs.

In the 2008 election, the number stood at 15, and in 2013 it was further reduced to 7.

Heng posed a question whether the community’s fate had improved two years after 37 DAPs were elected to the Dewan Rakyat.

“The answer is very clear. It has become worse,” she said, adding that the community must carefully rethink what they wanted in the future.
