A very perceptive comment from DAKJ :

"2. On a subject of Umno-Pas cooperation ....But it stops there.
3. For Umno and Pas Presidents - big question mark on their real "niat" since both of them are facing major personal problems.
4. Mohd Najib is facing serious allegations of abuse of power and corruption whilst Haji Abdul Hadi had lost a chunk of his party
5. neither of them has received party-wide mandate to negotiate..This appears to be a unilateral decision by two leaders in trouble.
6. strongest objections from Umno. collaboration or merger it is Umno that is most likely to have to give in. not be a welcomed thing for Umno to give way to Pas candidates.
7. means fewer get to contest and will receive less money ..un..acceptable to Umno division chiefs used to extracting money

My comments : At this stage in our history, UMNO has become irrelevant, just like PAS.
Irrelevant to whom? To the people of course, especially to the Malays.
BUT HERE IS THE INEXPLICABLE FACT : THE MALAYS STILL VOTE FOR BOTH UMNO AND PAS.
Ok first lets define their irrelevance. Here are some facts.
Pas has ruled Kelantan for 43 years (out of the 58 years since Merdeka).
Pas ruled Kelantan for 18 years from 1959 until 1977.
Then for another 25 years, and still counting, from 1990 until 2015.
And what has the 43 years (and counting) of Pas rule made Kelantan?
It has become and will still remain the poorest state in Malaysia. On a per capita basis Kelantan folks are poorer than Sabah, Sarawak and Indonesia - according to the Khazanah Research Institute. (Bro Khazanah man, if you are reading this, please resend those links. Thank you.)
Tak payah cakap banyak - Kelantan and the Kelantanese are just backward. I can say so many other things but it will just make people more upset.
The 43 years (and counting) of Pas rule over Kelantan has not been of much relevance to the people of Kelantan.
Yet why do the Kelantanese keep voting the Pas back into power? Very simple : Religious opium and the "Texas syndrome". Religious opium refers to falsehoods like the keys to heaven, the who-dude and other false teachings (yup, it is ajaran sesat. Feel so sorry for you folks.)
The 'Texas syndrome' is the feeling of 'we are different, we aint like you" and "we like our steers".
The two combined together has kept Kelantan and Kelantanese in the condition they are in now.
The irrelevance of PAS has also dawned upon the party's own members. Pas has now split into two - PAS and Parti Amanah Negara (or is it Harapan).
Before the split, Pas had 28 seats. After the split, the original PAS only has 14 Parliamentary seats. 14 have gone to Amanah (Betulke? Any corrections?)
So even PAS is divided into two. Even politically, half the party is not relevant to the other half.
Over in UMNO, since 2004, they have also become irrelevant. They lost the 2/3 Parliamentary majority in 2008. This means they became not relevant to an increasing number of Malaysians and Malays.
In 2013 UMNO lost more seats and the BN also lost the popular vote. UMNO and the BN only achieved 48% of all votes cast in the country. The Opposition secured 52% of the popular vote.
Ok lets define UMNO's irrelevance. Since 2004, the people of Malaysia and the Malays in particular have been at the losing end.
In brief all Malaysians, especially Malays cannot say that their lives are better off now, today in 2015 than it was in 2013 or even in 2008. Things have been deteriorating since then. Life is becoming more difficult. The quality of life seems to be deteriorating.
And very large swathes of the people too are becoming socially backward.
UMNO and the BN are becoming increasingly irrelevant to Malaysians.
So now we have two irrelevant groups of moronic politicians and their moronic politics talking about collaboration and mergers etc.
It will just be irrelevance heaped upon more irrelevance.
If they are voted into power, then the people, especially the Malays, will become even more irrelevant as well.
The consequence of this event (if it happens) in 2018 will be irreversible. Whether UMNO or PAS the Malays are doomed.
If Pas collaborates with UMNO, Pas will lose many, many votes from long time Pas supporters. UMNO members are not going to vote for Pas.
If UMNO collaborates with Pas, UMNO will lose many, many votes from long time UMNO supporters. Pas members are not going to vote for UMNO.
So an UMNO - Pas collaboration is going to lose even more votes for BOTH UMNO and PAS. (This is the stupidest collaboration between the two stupidest political parties in the country now.)
This means Pas is going to lose some of those 14 Parliamentary seats that they still have.
UMNO is going to lose MANY of those 88 Parliamentary seats that UMNO still has. (I think UMNO will get about 50 seats. They will lose marginal seats - about 30 of them).
So Pas and UMNO are going to become minorities in Parliamentary.
On the other side, Amanah can pick up some seats for sure.
PKR and DAP can pick up the slack if they can field winnable Malay candidates for Malay areas. Plus they must break from Pas completely and maybe partner with Amanah - with Amanah's undertaking to drop the who-dude crap.
If PKR is confused about Pas, then perhaps DAP should team up with Amanah alone.
The wild cards are in Sarawak and Sabah. If UMNO / BN lose the majority on the Peninsula, there is no way Sarawak is going to support them anymore.
The fixed deposit in Sarawak is long gone. Sarawak is for Sarawakians. And the Sabahans might also "show the way".
There is only one thing that can save UMNO / BN. Get rid of Prime Moron and his team of crooks. There has to be a complete overhaul and housecleaning of the entire useless edifice.
There has to be a major overhaul of ALL policies.
It is not UMNO, Pas, BN, PKR etc. It is all about relevance. Even when you are not relevant (like Pas in Kelantan or UMNO since 2004) the unthinking may still vote you int power.
But the irrelevance only becomes larger.
Orang jadi tidak relevan.
Masyarakat jadi tidak relevan. - http://syedsoutsidethebox.blogspot.com/
