Perkasa wants fatwa declaring G25 ‘deviant’

The Malay rights pressure group Perkasa has passed a resolution urging the government to declare G25 as a deviant group.
According to a booklet listing the motions at the NGO's sixth annual general meeting, the decision was made because the group supposedly spread 'liberal and plural' beliefs that can undermine the Muslim faith.
Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali also urged the government to take action against anyone who knowingly goes against Article 3 of the Federal Constitution, which states that Islam is the religion of the federation.
“Perkasa strongly condemns the insolence of the group G25, and calls on the government to take stern action to stifle this belief through a fatwa declaring the group as deviant.
“This conference also urge the government to be firm and take legal action to defend the sanctity of Islam and not bow to pressure from any interested party,” he said during his winding-up speech at the meeting in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.
In addition, Perkasa also approved a motion supporting the government's actions to combat religious extremist groups that have diverted from Islamic teachings, such as the self-styled Islamic State and the Jamaah Islah.
The former Pasir Mas MP added that he wants the Fatwa Council to take action against G25's statements that are supposedly against the teachings of Islam.
On another matter, Perkasa has passed a resolution rejecting the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, saying that it would be detrimental to the country and to the people. -Mkini
