The Johor police will boost efforts to ensure traffic congestion at the Causeway over several days ago can be promptly overcome.
State police chief Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said a directive had been issued to the state public order/traffic department to set up a special patrol team to handle the problem.
He said he had instructed the department chief, Supt Baharudin Mat Taib to set up a patrol team to help smoothen traffic flow for road users to Singapore and vice-versa.
He was speaking to reporters at the state police contingent headquarters in Johor Baru today.
Wan Ahmad Najmuddin also advised road users to plan their journey and refrain from using the route during peak periods as the route was also used by those returning from work.
It is understood the congestions occurred following Singapore's close check of every vehicle since two weeks ago. This is expected to continue into the Christmas festive season and the New Year.
The police chief said to overcome congestion in Johor Baru, enforcement would be upgraded to ensure no traffic obstruction by the road-shoulder, including double-parking.
Meanwhile, an integrated operation with the state road transport department to tackle illegal racing was conducted between Dec 18 and 20, involving inspections on 236 vehicles.
"A total 264 individuals were inspected, 195 summonses issued and 11 vehicles seized in the operation," said Wan Ahmad Najmuddin.
He said a man and a woman were detained for falsifying Singapore's written-off vehicle documents while 11 men were nabbed for driving dangerously.
