Shahbudin: PAS should oppose Najib, reject Hadi

Najib’s arguments on Malay and Muslim unity fall apart when considering that had it not been for the twin mega scandals, he won’t be cozying up to Hadi.

KUALA LUMPUR: A political analyst warned in his latest blog posting, in reacting to the Hadi-Najib pact on political cooperation, that the idea that a leader could receive RM2.6 billion in his personal accounts and later turn around and claim that it was a political “donation”, cannot be accepted by anybody with dignity. “This wouldn’t happen in a developed nation and if it had happened, the leader would have been immediately thrown out by the people or forced to resign before being hauled to Court and jail.”
“Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak ‘benefits’ because he’s a leader in a Third World country where many people are not that exposed and may even accept what he has done, although out of the ordinary, as something normal.”
Shahbudin Husin, the analyst, was explaining to his readers and critics why he had to oppose any idea of PAS and Umno forging political cooperation, under Abdul Hadi Awang and Najib Abdul Razak, with the twin mega scandals hanging over their heads and there being no closure in sight.
He begs to disagree with readers and critics who argue that notwithstanding the twin mega scandals, Muslims and Malays should support the Hadi-Najib pact on political cooperation “for the sake of Malays, Islam and political unity”.
“One Umno leader even tried to persuade me that it should be seen as compulsory for Muslims and Malays to support the Hadi-Najib pact as the Prime Minister has the ability to increase the dignity of the race and religion which is already under threat,” disclosed the analyst. “At the same time, many critics agree that the pact was a political one and would face all sorts of difficulties.”
“In a contradiction in terms, they agree that the twin mega scandals are serious issues and that Najib was more interested in ensuring his own political survival under the guise of Malay and Muslim unity through his political cooperation pact with Hadi.”
Shahbudin pointed out that Najib’s arguments on Malay and Muslim unity fall apart when considering that had it not been for the twin mega scandals, he won’t be cozying up to Hadi.
The analyst argues that should the Prime Minister pull off his pact with Hadi and remain in power, history will have a harsh verdict on PAS. “The Islamic party would be seen as having abandoned all its principles in order to be in cahoots with someone who has indulged in wrongdoing.”
In summing up, the analyst urged PAS to stay with the Opposition where they would be better off in the end. “The voices in PAS against the Hadi-Najib pact should be heeded.”
