KUALA LUMPUR: Three more weak earthquakes struck Tarakan in Kalimantan, Indonesia between 11.30am and 2.28pm, making it a total of seven earthquakes in the area today.
In a statement today, the Malaysian Meteorological Department said the first quake measuring 3.1 on the Richter Scale occurred at 11.30am, followed by another measuring 3.3 on the Richter Scale (1.21pm) and the other which recorded 3.6 on the Richter Scale at 2.28pm.
They occurred 60km to 90km southwest of Tawau in Sabah.
“The tremors might be felt in Tawau but there is no threat of tsunami,” said the statement.
Earlier, two earthquakes struck at 8.01am and 8.18am, measuring 4.2 and 4.6 on the Richter Scale. The epicentre was 46km northeast and 22km north of Tarakan or 80km to 105km southwest of Tawau.
Another two earthquakes occurred at 10.55am and 11.07am, measuring 3.4 and 3.2 on the Richter Scale.
