'Wrong to accuse officers of spying, invading privacy in khalwat raids'

The law on ‘khalwat’ (close proximity) in Selangor is aimed at preventing illicit sex and investigation on this is made based on complaints from the public.
Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) chairperson Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa and Selangor Mufti Mohd Tamyes Abdul Wahid, in a joint statement today, said investigation was also conducted according to procedures as provided in the Syariah Criminal Procedure (Selangor) Enactment.
"So, it is wrong to accuse religious enforcement officers of spying and invading into a person's privacy when the action is in line with the process provided in the law," it said.
The statement was issued in response to a call by a group of retired civil servants, G25, for punishment against khalwat to be abolished if it is committed in a private dwelling.
