PETALING JAYA: Berjaya Land has announced the appointment of Abang Abdillah Izzarim Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari as an independent non-executive director effective Aug 10.
Abang Abdillah, 45, is the son of Sarawak premier, Abang Johari Openg.
According to a Bursa filing, Abang Abdillah started his career as a commercial pilot before moving into the world of technology and business.
He took on the role of executive chairman at Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd in June and currently holds the position of chairman at Sarawak-based telecommunications company Irix Sdn Bhd (formerly known as PP Telecommunication Sdn Bhd).
Abang Abdillah also serves as a director at Cempaka Helicopter Corporation Sdn Bhd
“Known for his hands-on approach, (Abang Abdillah) Izzarim actively engages in day-to-day operations, leading and guiding his team to ensure alignment with client expectations and fruitful business partnerships,” said the filing.
On Wednesday, Berjaya Land filed a defamation suit against Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor for allegedly making defamatory remarks about the RM700 million river-widening project known as the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG).
In their statement of claim filed at the High Court here yesterday, tycoon Vincent Tan and his company, Berjaya Land, alleged that Sanusi’s impugned remarks on Aug 2 were defamatory and that the remarks had tarnished their reputations locally and internationally.
Tan and Berjaya Land are seeking an unspecified amount in general, and aggravated and exemplary damages, from Sanusi. - FMT
