Look at state government's track record when voting - Johari

KUALA LUMPUR: The people must take stock of which party is better suited to lead a state government based on its track records, says Titiwangsa member of Parliament Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

He said development in a state depends on the state government's ability to administer, while taking Selangor as an example.

"The progress achieved by Selangor is due to Pakatan Harapan's leadership continuing the development that was previously built by the BN government.

"BN fell in 2008 and Selangor was taken over by PH which continued the administration for 15 years. However, PH continued the development done by BN.

"Leaders who focus on development are very crucial and Selangor have prove that with the continuity of the development brought by BN in the previous 51 years," he said in the Soal Rakyat Khas PRN interview with TV3.

He said this when commenting on the differences in the progress achieved between Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan which is said to be more progressive than the three states on the East Coast due to them not aligned with the federal government.

The former second finance minister said, in Penang, the state government, despite not being a part of the federal government, also managed to become one of the most developed states due to certain strategies made.

He added that Selangor and Kelantan have a significant difference in contributions to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth.

"Selangor is also one of the largest states contributing to the GDP which is estimated at almost 25.5 per cent.

"In the East Coast, especially in Kelantan, after being governed for almost 33 years, its GDP contribution is only 1.9 per cent.

"This is the difference that I see. So come polling day, the people need to re-evaluate the existing government.

"It's like when BN used to rule and the people will try to see if there are manifestos that they think are better." - NST
