PETALING JAYA: Two men have been arrested by police to assist in investigations into a statement deemed insulting to the King and a criminal threat made against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
In a statement, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the men, aged 34 and 37, were arrested separately.
The first arrest on Nov 26 involved the suspected owner of Facebook account “Cik Mat Cik Po”. The man was arrested in Kota Bharu, Kelantan on suspicion of uploading a seditious comment against the King.
He is under remand until Nov 30 and is being probed under the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for the improper use of network facilities.
The second arrest involved the suspected owner of TikTok account @jaiadani89, who was detained on Nov 28 over a criminal threat directed at Anwar.
He was also detained in Kota Bharu, Kelantan and is likewise under remand until Nov 30.
The case is being probed under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation by anonymous communication and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
“The cases are still being investigated by Bukit Aman’s classified crime investigation unit and criminal investigation department.
“We advise the public against any speculation on the cases that could disrupt investigations. We also remind the public to be more prudent about sensitive issues that can disrupt public peace and national security,” Razarudin said. - FMT
