PETALING JAYA: Students of the Malay College Kuala Kangsar suspected of being involved in a bullying case were subject to harassment in town after the case went viral online, says the parent-teacher association of the elite boarding school.

The PTA criticised family members of an alleged bullying victim for posting videos related to the case on the internet, saying such actions had a negative impact on MCKK’s image.

“We received reports of MCKK students getting scolded and chased away from restaurants in Kuala Kangsar, while being labelled as bullies, although the school had taken action over the case,” it said in a statement.

The PTA said the actions of the victim’s family members in posting their accounts on social media had amounted to interference in the management of the school.

The association suggested that the school bar students from going out to Kuala Kangsar town on their own until the matter is fully resolved, to prevent further risk of students getting harassed.

It also urged students not to take matters into their hands in replying to “attacks or provocation” from external parties.

“MCKK should also help students file a police report should they experience any form of harassment, and provide counselling services to monitor their emotional state.

“We deeply regret the family member’ actions to publicise this case. This is inconsiderate and selfish. We hope this will serve as a lesson so that parents will not interfere and respect the decisions made by the school,” said the PTA.

Yesterday, FMT reported that the mother of a Form Four student at a boarding school in Perak demanded the expulsion of a group of seniors who allegedly assaulted her son in September.

The mother, who wanted to be known only as Puan F, said her son suffered a groin injury over the assault, yet the bullies were only punished with three strokes of caning and mandatory community service.

She questioned the school for not enforcing the “you touch, you go” policy which warranted expulsion for bullies. - FMT
