PUTRAJAYA: The secretaries-general and directors-general of ministries must be bold and terminate any programme, project or service if they find the contractor involved is underperforming, says Chief Secretary Zuki Ali.
Zuki said all programmes and projects should be implemented with integrity and efficiency.
“Timely execution of programmes or projects will have multiplier effects, particularly in stimulating the local economy.
“Hence, the roles of central agencies, ministries and departments are crucial to reinforce and ensure the alignment and effectiveness of government policies and initiatives,” he said in officiating the 2023 national development awards (APN).
His speech text was read by Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz, director-general of the implementation coordination unit (ICU) in the Prime Minister’s Department.
Zuki also expressed his gratitude for the dedication exhibited by all secretaries-general and directors-general in putting their duties as public servants before personal interests.
He said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim placed a lot of trust in the public service, and this was reflected in his decision to entrust civil servants with implementing small projects, including for maintenance, at the education ministry.
He said as of Oct 31, letters of acceptance for 8,109 (or 97.1%) of 8,354 small projects had been received.
“A total of 4,764 projects have been completed while 3,018 are in progress. A total of 328 projects were terminated.”
Zuki said these figures showcase a concerted commitment from all parties to ensure their successful completion by the end of this year. - FMT
