Bersatu suspends Labuan MP for six years

Bersatu’s Disciplinary Board Committee has meted out a six-year suspension on Labuan MP Suhalili Abdul Rahman, who last week expressed his support for PKR president Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister.

The party’s secretary general Hamzah Zainudin confirmed this in a brief press statement tonight.

“The party’s Disciplinary Board Committee convened today to examine the reported disciplinary violation and violation of the (party) constitution by Suhaili, who is Labuan MP and head of the Labuan and Federal Territories (Bersatu) division.

“After carefully examining all the evidence of documentation, the seriousness of the mistakes, the implications and impact on the party, and also media statements from Suhaili on Oct 30, 2023, the Disciplinary Board Committee found him guilty under Clause 22.1(f) of the party’s constitution.

“Accordingly, the committee unanimously used its power under Clause 22.5(c) of the constitution to suspend the membership of Suhaili, along with all positions in the party held by him for a period of six years effective from the date of the decision and sentencing, which is Nov 7, 2023,” said Hamzah.

Last Thursday (Nov 2), Hamzah announced that Bersatu’s supreme council appointed party vice-president Radzi Jidin as the new Federal Territories Bersatu head and Labuan division chief, replacing Suhaili.

The Bersatu Disciplinary Board Committee had also suspended Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid’s membership for four years effective Nov 3.

Hamzah also said Iskandar was suspended from his Kuala Kangsar division chief post as well as all positions held in the party.

This comes after Iskandar, like Suhaili, voiced support for Anwar’s premiership, citing the rising cost of living in his constituency.
