KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened an investigation paper into an allegation that former PKR leader Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak was involved in enticing opposition MPs into supporting the government.
“We have received a report (from Farhash) and we have started an investigation,” Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain told reporters at the police training centre here today.
Razarudin was asked whether the police had received a report from Farhash.
On Tuesday, Farhash said he will lodge a police report against Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal for claiming that he was involved in bribing and threatening opposition MPs to support the government.
Farhash, a former political aide to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, denied Wan Fayhsal’s claim, saying he was no longer involved in politics.
In response, Wan Fayhsal said he welcomed Farhash filing a police report against him as he was merely repeating allegations made in a police report earlier by Bersatu Youth.
The Machang MP had previously identified Farhash and another individual dubbed as “Datuk Botak” in a video that had been circulating on Facebook and TikTok.
This comes after four Bersatu MPs recently pledged their support for the government to secure allocations for their constituencies.
They are Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).
On a separate matter, Razarudin said Anwar has not yet received any direct threats over his criticisms of the Israeli government.
“But we are still collecting intelligence. National security is at a very good level,” he said.
He said no police reports regarding threats have been made.
Previously, Razarudin said the police will beef up Anwar’s security after he disclosed that he received multiple threats from Western countries.
Anwar said this in his speech at a rally held in solidarity with the people of Palestine. - FMT
