PETALING JAYA: Former Skudai assemblyman Dr Boo Cheng Hau said he felt “vindicated” by two-time former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s recent statement that he used DAP to topple his disgraced protege, Najib Razak.
“I objected to the way that DAP and Pakatan Harapan allowed Mahathir and (Bersatu president) Muhyiddin Yassin to dominate the PH leadership, especially in Johor.
“We had contrasting ideologies and differed greatly in the way of governance.
“We could never expect the classical figures of an ailing system to become reformists. Allowing them to manipulate the PH government has been proven to be damaging to DAP and the PH reform agenda,” Boo said in a statement today.
He said he weathered “kurang ajar” insults in 2018 because he would not share the stage with Mahathir at a DAP dinner, where the former Umno leader was a guest.
“My judgment was proven accurate without doubt. PH was instead severely undermined after the 2018 victory,” he said, adding that the party marginalised him for standing firm.
Boo also said his warning about giving Muhyiddin too much room to manoeuvre in Johor proved correct, as it was the first state to fall after the Sheraton Move in 2020.
“It was sheer denial, naiveness and poor judgment by many of our own (PH) leaders,” he said of the political coup, which he added had put back key reforms by 10 to 15 years. - FMT
