Peja pledges support for Muhyiddin after loyalty questioned

Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu has reaffirmed his allegiance to Perikatan Nasional and Bersatu.

The declaration comes in the wake of a fourth Bersatu MP supporting Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's leadership.

Faizal said he was responding to rumours on certain social media accounts questioning his loyalty.

"I wish to stress that my loyalty to (PN chairperson and Bersatu president) Muhyiddin remains firm and undivided," he said in a Facebook post.

Pledging to work hard to strengthen PN and Bersatu, Faizal said he never colluded with political rivals or supported the current government.

The former Perak menteri besar is also confident that PN and Bersatu would continue to function as an honest opposition.

Faizal, who is popularly known as Peja, appealed to those in PN and Bersatu not to succumb to "vile rumours" and focus on serving the people.

Emphasising the need for PN to be an effective opposition, he said Malaysia requires economic solutions urgently.

'Focus on national issues'

Faizal, who failed to defend his Tambun federal seat against Anwar in the last general election, also urged the rumour mongers to focus on national issues.

He said these issues warranted greater attention and action.

"Spreading fake news akin to malicious slander is counterproductive and adds to the sins which are unbearable.

"Those responsible for spreading these fake rumours will end up ruining their own reputation.

"They claim to champion the party but allow themselves to become tools in the efforts to weaken the party," Faizal added.

Jeli MP Zahari Kechik

Yesterday, Jeli MP Zahari Kechik became the fourth Bersatu lawmaker to pledge his support for Anwar's leadership, citing the wellbeing of his constituents.

Previously, three others - namely Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman, and Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim had done the same - citing the same reason.

Iskandar and Suhaili have since been suspended from Bersatu for four years and six years, respectively, by the party’s disciplinary board.

The support of the four Bersatu MPs brings the number of MPs aligned to Anwar in Parliament to 150, three more than a two-thirds majority. - Mkini
