POLITIK KAMBING AND THE REALLY STUPID ANTI HOPPING LAW

Here is some really weird news. Three MPs from the PN have now declared their love and support for the PH. Permadu Malaysia has a write up here:

https://permadumalaysia.blogspot.com/2023/11/bernikah-dengan-muhyiddin-bercinta.html?m=1

The three froggies are:

1. Ahli Parlimen Labuan Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman.  Pada 30 Oktober lepas, Suhaili mengumumkan sokongan terhadap PH dan Ketua Menteri Sabah, Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor

2. Ahli Parlimen Kuala Kangsar Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid membuat kenyataan secara terbuka menyokong PH

3.  Ahli parlimen Gua Musang Mohd Azizi Abu Naim dari PN secara rasmi mengisytiharkan sokongan penuh kepada PH

I believe Bersatu has taken disciplinary action and suspended two of these guys for SIX years or something.

But wait a minute. Does this mean that they are still members of Bersatu (or PN) but they support the PH?

Isnt that not allowed  under the Anti Hopping Law? Isnt the Anti Hopping Law designed exactly to prevent things like this from happening?

That if you change your allegiance from one party to another your seat is declared vacant and there must be a by-election called?

But it looks like these three guys have circumvented the Anti Hopping Law by not resigning from their party but they just switched their allegiance to the opposing party.

Then what is the purpose of the Anti Hopping Law?

This is exactly what I pointed out when the Anti Hopping Law was first mooted. I did suggest this scenario - what if some MP does not quit from his party but secretly (or openly) supports the opposite party in Parliament. For example in a vote in Parliament the MP votes in support of the opposite party instead of voting for his own party.

He did not officially "jump" from his party but for all intents and purposes he now supports the opposite party.

If their seats are not declared vacant and by-elections called then doesnt this make the Anti Hopping Law nonsensical?

Does this strengthen the ruling party? I dont know because it depends on why or what or "how much" was the motivation for these three guys to switch allegiances.

Maybe all three of them had $uddenly $een the light.

It certainly does not add to the dwindling popularity of this gomen.

From the very beginning in November 2022 this has been a minority gomen. They never secured the majority support of the voters. This gomen became possible only with the horse trading with UMNO who had lost the elections convincingly. UMNO was down to over 20 seats in Parliament.

The PKR too had lost  HALF their Parliamentary seats in Parliament. From 52 seats they had gone down to 20+ seats only.

So the two losers UMNO and PKR had to team up to form their coalition of losing parties. Until today this  is their weakness. And they are getting more unpopular.  The actions of these three kambing MPs does not add to the PH's popularity at all.

The views expressed are those of the writer and do not necessarily reflect those of MMKtT.
