There is some interesting news coming out of the war in Gaza today (and yesterday). The Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant announced that Israeli troops had identified and isolated the location of Yahya Sinwar the Hamas chief inside Gaza. This is the guy really running the show for the Hamas on the ground in Gaza.
The Israeli Defense Minister said yesterday that Yahya Sinwar's underground bunker had been located and isolated and that Sinwar was inside the bunker. (There was no further news about what action would be taken). The bunker is totally cut off and has no communications links with the outside world.
Later when the media questioned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about this news he sidestepped the question, not wanting to answer it. The official Israeli military spokesman who was questioned point blank about Yahya Sinwar also refused to provide any answers.
It is not impossible that Yahya Sinwar's location was compromised by Hamas themselves. Coincidentally or not, Seymour Hersh has just reported a couple of days ago that the Hamas leadership living in Qatar has opened secret talks with Israel. Yahya Sinwar would not know about this since he is completely cut off from communications with the outside world inside his bunker.
It would be in the interests of Israel to capture Yahya Sinwar alive and keep him alive. And keep the whole matter a secret. That way they can negotiate separately with the Hamas leadership in Qatar against the Hamas leadership inside Gaza.
