Probe papers on Siti Kasim’s bomb case referred to DPP, says Saifuddin

In July, lawyer-activist Siti Kasim was alerted to a suspicious object under her car which the police confirmed was an improvised explosive device.

PETALING JAYA: Police have referred the investigation paper concerning an improvised explosive device (IED) found under lawyer-activist Siti Kasim’s car to the deputy public prosecutor.

In a written parliamentary reply to Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin today, home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said police were still tracking down the people involved.

“The investigation is ongoing and efforts are being made to track down suspects and ascertain the motive,” he said.

“Police do not intend to comment further as the case is still being investigated.”

He said police have opened 17 cases nationwide in relation to threats involving explosives against individuals or organisations since 2019.

Police said the bomb found underneath Siti Kasim’s car was an attempt to kill the lawyer-activist.

In July, Siti was alerted to a suspicious object under her car during a routine service of the vehicle at a workshop in Bangsar. The bomb squad was called in.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain later said the bomb found underneath her car was an attempt to murder the lawyer-activist.

Subsequently, the police admitted that its probe into the incident had hit a dead end, with no suspects identified.

More than 50 civil society groups have condemned those responsible for planting the IED. - FMT
