Kedah PAS has urged the public to join a protest against a legal bid to nullify 20 Kelantan syariah criminal offences, which will be heard at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya on Nov 20.
Its commissioner Ahmad Yahaya claimed that the syariah laws used to uphold religion are being dismantled one by one.
“Case after case, it is happening - which should bring awareness and draw the attention of all Muslims to rise up and express their concern and worry about developments.
“We don’t want syariah laws to be relegated in a corner and eventually swept aside by the passage of time,” he said in a statement published in Harakahdaily today.
However, the PAS mouthpiece did not give any details regarding the first of a series of protests planned by the party, which is supposed to take place in Kuala Terengganu tomorrow.
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man announced three rallies last week, including one slated for Kelantan on Nov 18.
As of the time of writing, Malaysiakini has contacted several PAS leaders but has yet to obtain any details regarding tomorrow’s rally.
The protests are being held to oppose lawyer Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid and her daughter Tengku Yasmin Nastasha Tengku Abdul Rahman’s legal bid to nullify 20 provisions under the Kelantan’s Syariah Criminal Code (I) Enactment 2019.
They seek to have the offences under those provisions declared null and void.
This covers matters such as destroying a place of worship (Section 11), giving away a child to a non-Muslim or morally corrupt Muslim (Section 13), sodomy (Section 14), necrophiliac sexual intercourse (Section 16), bestiality (Section 17), and sexual harassment (Section 31). - Mkini
