Wan Fayhsal: Labuan MP 'traitor' to Bersatu

Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal today lashed out at Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman, labelling the suspended Bersatu lawmaker a "traitor" over alleged attempts to solicit support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Speaking to reporters in Parliament, the Machang MP also accused Suhaili of acting in cahoots with an individual he referred to yesterday as "Datuk Botak".

"(I am) responding to his (Suhaili) media statement yesterday accusing me of concocting this fiction about Datuk Botak. In fact, he is also involved.

"Suhaili, and I'm telling the media, is involved in seducing our MPs to endorse and support the prime minister.

"He too is one of the operators now. He is a traitor. I call him a traitor, to make it simple," Wan Fayhsal claimed.

Wan Fayhsal went on to narrate an incident which allegedly happened during a Bersatu meeting he attended along with Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin.

He claimed that another Bersatu MP who was present during the meeting had received a call from Suhaili, who allegedly intended to solicit support for Anwar's administration.

"When our MP passed his phone to the opposition leader (Hamzah), he (Suhaili) was shocked.

"He (Suhaili) thought he could have a private conversation with the MP. It turns out we were in the same meeting.

"He never gave up since he declared support for the prime minister, he tried to find Bersatu MPs one by one. So it’s a blatant approach by him.

"That's why he's a traitor in Bersatu and we have suspended him for six years," the former deputy minister stressed.

Malaysiakini has contacted Suhaili for comment.

In response to Wan Fayhsal's initial claims yesterday, Suhaili denied that he and three other MPs from Bersatu were intimidated into supporting the coalition government.

Suhaili also denied Wan Fayhsal's allegation that all four of them were approached by "Datuk Botak" either with threats, promises of projects or cash rewards.

‘Baseless accusations’

During a press conference in Parliament yesterday, Wan Fayhsal claimed that "Datuk Botak" and Anwar’s former political secretary Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak were allegedly responsible for persuading the four PN MPs to change direction.

Farhash, in an immediate response, had vehemently denounced and denied what he called "baseless slanderous accusations" levelled against him.

However, Wan Fayhsal today said he had only read out a police report lodged by Bersatu Youth, in which they had submitted "video evidence" that allegedly showed Farhash together with "Datuk Botak" and PN MPs in Parliament.

"The evidence is in the video... So the police can investigate.

"It’s good that he (Farhash) denied yesterday. But let the police clear his name, because the video has been shared and triggered public unrest," he added.

Wan Fayhsal reiterated that Bersatu Youth will also follow up on their police report with a separate report to the MACC.

The four Bersatu MPs who had declared their support for Anwar, besides Suhaili, are Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).

All four said they made the decision for the interest and welfare of the voters in their respective constituencies.
